Who are we?

Formed in 1933, we are the only independent conservation organisation concerned with protecting the whole of Lancashire's countryside. A registered charity, membership is open to all.

What do we do?

We scrutinise planning applications, local plans and other policy documents which have an impact on the countryside of Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside. We prepare well-researched and informed submissions to local government and public inquiries. We provide an advice and information service for the public from our offices at Bamber Bridge.

What do we campaign on?

  • challenging excessive and damaging housing, employment and leisure developments,
  • better design of new developments,
  • stemming the loss of land to roads and parking,
  • working for improved public transport,
  • protecting characteristic landscapes and landscape features such as hedgerows, ponds and dry stone walls,
  • controlling quarrying,
  • improving waste policies,
  • protecting tranquil areas,
  • stimulating environmental improvements to agricultural and forestry and forestry policies.

What does the branch offer you as a member?

  • Advice and information on planning matters
  • Co-operation on campaigns
  • Specialist information about countryside matters
  • Opportunities to influence decision makers on rural issues
  • Quarterly branch newsletter "Countrywise"
