Our Plans for the Future

Lancashire CPRE relies on local volunteers to protect the countryside from harmful developments. We have ambitious plans to create a CPRE District Group in each local authority that we cover.

What is a District Group?

A group of active volunteers who care about the countryside where they live. The volunteers have a broad range of interests, but overall they care about their countryside and the vitality of the places where we live. On a regular basis they monitor planning applications to protect their area from harmful development.
The group acts as a sub-group of Lancashire CPRE.

Main Purpose of a District Group

The Group consults and prepares representations on issues affecting the local countryside of a District. It initiates campaigns that are of local importance, whether it be against a planning application, or in support of a farmer's market or local village service, all with the back up and support of the Lancashire Branch and National Office in London.

Benefits of a District Group

  • will provide a forum whereby its members can consult on issues affecting their own locality
  • will provide and reinforce the local “voice” which will lead to decisive action
  • will develop a ‘pool’ of local knowledge and experience
  • will improve planning communication with the wider public of your area
  • will open the doors towards two way consultation process
  • will enable members to organise campaigns of immediate local relevance
  • will ultimately protect and enhance your local countryside
  • will give opportunities to influence policy up to Regional level

How to get involved

The creation of the district groups has lead to the creation of a number of volunteer opportunities across the county, with more places becoming available as new groups are assembled.

Current District Groups
